Cross-Connection Control & Backflow Prevention Program

What is a Cross Connection?

A cross-connection is any physical link between the City’s potable (drinking) water system and a source of potential contamination or pollution, such as irrigation systems, fire sprinkler systems, chemical or industrial process lines, or other equipment connected directly to the water supply.

What is backflow?

Backflow is the reverse flow of water from a private plumbing system into the public water supply, potentially carrying contaminants. This can occur due to changes in water pressure and can create a serious health hazard if not prevented.

The City's Cross - COnnection Control Program

To provide the highest level of protection, the City of La Verne has partnered with Backflow Solutions, Inc. (BSI), a national leader in backflow data management. BSI assists with developing, implementing, and maintaining effective cross-connection control programs.

Key Program Features

  • Annual Testing Required: All backflow prevention assemblies must be tested each year by a certified tester.
  • Notification Process: BSI sends due and past-due notifications on behalf of the City.
  • Online Submission: Testers must submit results directly through BSI Online

What You Need to Do

  1. Hire a Certified Tester – Contact your backflow prevention tester to schedule your annual test.
