BeWaterWise.com Rebates for Residential & Commercial Customers

Metropolitan Water District’s BeWaterWise.com portal connects eligible customers in Southern California to water-saving rebates and programs. Rebates are administered through the SoCal Water$mart platform and may vary by water agency and funding availability.

Residential Single-family & small multi-family

Residential Rebates

Homeowners and eligible multi-family residents can apply for rebates on indoor and outdoor devices that reduce water use.

Common indoor rebates include:

  • High-efficiency clothes washers
  • Premium high-efficiency toilets
  • Flow monitor / leak detection devices

Common outdoor rebates include:

  • Rotating sprinkler nozzles
  • Smart / weather-based irrigation controllers
  • Soil moisture sensor systems
  • Rain barrels and cisterns
  • Turf Replacement Program – rebates to remove grass and install California Friendly® or native landscaping

Rebate amounts and eligible products change over time. Use the “Estimate Your Rebate” tool on SoCal Water$mart to see current amounts for your address.

Commercial Business, CII & public agencies

Commercial Rebates & Incentives

Businesses, HOAs, schools, public agencies and other non-residential customers can receive rebates and custom incentives for qualifying projects.

Typical commercial rebates may cover:

  • High-efficiency toilets, urinals and plumbing fixtures
  • HVAC and cooling tower upgrades
  • Commercial kitchen & food-service equipment
  • Medical and dental equipment
  • Smart irrigation controllers & rotating nozzles
  • Turf replacement and landscape transformation projects (higher incentive levels are available for non-residential properties)

Custom projects that save water may qualify under the Water Savings Incentive Program (WSIP), which bases incentives on the volume of water saved over the project life.

Turf Replacement Program (Residential & Commercial)

The Turf Replacement Program provides rebates to remove existing grass and replace it with water-efficient landscaping. Requirements typically include:

  • Removing existing turf grass in the project area
  • Planting California Friendly® and native plants
  • Including a stormwater retention feature (e.g., swales, rain garden, rain barrels)
  • Using permeable hardscape materials where possible
  • Upgrading to efficient irrigation where overhead spray is removed

Rebate amounts (per square foot) and maximum project sizes differ for residential and commercial customers and may be increased with additional incentives from your local water agency. Always confirm current program details before starting work.

How to Apply

1. Check eligibility. Visit BeWaterWise.com and SoCal Water$mart and enter your service address to confirm that you are within Metropolitan’s service area and to see which rebates are available.

2. Estimate your rebate. Use the online tools to estimate potential rebates for each device or project and review the list of qualifying products.

3. Reserve your rebate (if required). For programs such as turf replacement, you must receive a reservation approval before removing any turf or starting the project.

4. Complete installation and submit documents. Install qualifying products or complete your landscape project, then upload your invoices, photos and other required documentation through the online portal.

Important: Rebates are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to change or discontinuation without notice. Submitting an application does not guarantee a rebate. Always review the most current program terms online before purchasing products or starting a project.
