Frequently Asked Questions
Code Enforcement ensures that properties in La Verne are maintained in a safe and clean condition according to City codes.
You can report online through the City’s Code Enforcement Portal, by phone at (909) 596-8788, email codeenforcement@laverneca.gov or report in person at City Hall.
All reports are handled confidentially. Anonymous reports are accepted, but including contact information allows staff to follow up if more details are needed.
The most common violations include trash and debris, overgrown or neglected landscaping, graffiti, inoperable vehicles, unpermitted construction, unpermitted signs, obstructions in the right-of-way, and noise complaints. You can visit the "Common Code Violations" page to view the violations in more detail with the Municipal Code sections included.
The timeline depends on the violation. Code Enforcement seeks voluntary compliance, which can sometimes extend the correction process. Simple issues like trash or basketball hoops may be resolved within days, while unpermitted construction may take months to correct due to plan review and inspections.
Once the complaint is received, it gets input into the Code Compliance Software and scheduled for an inspection. The inspection is conducted and the violation is either confirmed or unfounded. If the violation is confirmed, the property owner is notified of the violation and given time to correct the issue. If the violation goes uncorrected, it can lead to administrative citations.
You can contact the officer listed on the notice if you have questions on how to fix the violation.
If a violation remains uncorrected, the City may issue administrative citations and take further enforcement actions.
You can view the "Additional Resources" section of the Code Enforcement page to view a list of outside agencies and their services. Examples include mosquito or rodent problems, animal services and missed trash pickups.
