Residential Solid Waste & Recycling
Types of Recycling
Residents are given three different containers for their disposal needs. The following is a quick reminder as to what kinds of materials belong in each container.
The black cart is for refuse
Accepted Items
- Garden hoses
- Broken ceramic dishes and pots
- Chip bags
- Candy
- Snack and food wrappers
- Diapers and foam containers
Items Not Accepted:
- Hazardous waste
- Electronics
- Batteries
- Tires
- Paint
- Any flammable material
All materials must fit inside the container. Extra bags, boxes, or cans of trash left on the curb will not be accepted.
The green cart is for organic waste
Accepted Items
- Yard Waste
- Grass clippings
- Leaves
- Brush
- Shrubbery pruning
- Sawdust
- Tree trimmings
- Tree limbs (maximum of 4 inches in diameter)
- Food Waste
- Produce
- Dairy
- Beef
- Poultry and Fish
- Bread
- Pasta
- Rice
- Grains
- Coffee grounds
- Food soiled paper
Items Not Accepted
- Palm tree parts
- Palm fronds
- Cacti and other succulents
- Dirt and rocks
- Plastic bags
Kitchen Organics Pail
If you are a La Verne resident and interested in receiving an organics pail for easier residential organics recycling in your kitchen, please download the SB 1383 Pail Application (PDF), complete the flyer and bring it to City Hall to receive a pail.
Pails will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis until supplies run out. A maximum of one pail per household is allowed.

- Light bulbs
- Styrofoam
- Wax paper

- Food waste
